2018-08-14 Tue
Hungary released a souvenir sheet on 2nd May with one 1,000-forint stamp depicting lavender flowers. The stamp is dedicated to the medicinal plant of the year. The sheet was designed by Krisztina Maros and has rich purple colours. The simple design looks like folk motifs and highlights the flower’s beauty. The medicinal plant of the year is selected by the medicinal plant section of The Hungarian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences. These flowers are cultivated in large scale in temperate climates. They are generally used as ornamental plants for decorating garden and landscapes. They are also used as culinary herbs. Some essential oils are also extracted from Lavender for commercial use.
