Mintage World participated in the Pondy Stamp, Coin and Banknote Fair 2018 which took place from 3rd to 5th August at Vel Sokkanathan hall. The Indo-French Philatelic and Numismatic Association had organised the event which showcased a wide variety of interesting coins, postage stamps and banknotes.

Some of the highlights include the first known coins of India from Gandhara Janapada, gold and silver coins of the Mughals etc. Dealers from all over India participated in the fair to exhibit classic and rare coins, ancient and modern, Indian and foreign, coins, currency, and stamps of India and other countries. Visitors got a chance to understand the evolution of coinage. Some experienced numismatists also gave insights on India’s history.

Coins issued during the French rule in Puducherry featured Tamil inscriptions. Currency notes issued by Bank of Indo-China in Puducherry under the French rule featured images of French and Tamil personalities on both sides. Topical stamps based on birds, medicinal plants, events, flowers, political leaders, butterflies, railways of different nations and eras were also exhibited.

A letter writing contest named “Dear Pondy” was also conducted to promote the idea of handwritten letters. Participants were asked to write a letter/postcard about why they feel Pondicherry is special to them. 12 schools had cleared the first round in the stamp, coin and banknote quiz in July. The final round of this quiz was conducted on Saturday.
