Jainism is one of the religions followed in India. It is one of the religions which show us a path of non-violence and humanity. This religion was founded by Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th and last ‘Tirthankar’(Spiritual teacher’). Bhagwan Mahavir was born in the year 599 BC at Kshatriyakundato king Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. Bhagwan Mahavir was a son of a king, being a prince, he left his house and became ascetic. He attained enlightenment in the year 558 BC. After this, he started giving messages to the people to attain self-purification and self-perfection. On the occasion of his 2600 birth anniversary on 25th April 2002 Indian government had issued this 5 Rupee commemorative coin. These coins were minted in Mumbai and Noida.
