Chakravarti Rajagopalachari was an Indian lawyer, independence activist, politician, writer and statesman. He was also the last and the only Indian to be the Governor-General of India, appointed to this post on 5th March 1948 to succeed Mountbatten on June 21st, 1948.C. Rajagopalachari succeeded to the post of Govern-General of India after Lord Mountbatten and served in office from 21 June 1948 – 26 January 1950. He also served as leader of the Indian National Congress, Premier of the Madras Presidency, Governor of West Bengal, Minister for Home Affairs of the Indian Union and Chief Minister of Madras state.
Rajagopalachari founded the Swatantra Party and was one of the first recipients of India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.
India Post issued two commemorative stamps of 20 Paise (25th December 1973) and 25 Paise (10Th December 1978) both commemorating the death and the birth anniversaries respectively.
