Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad, popularly known as EMS was one of the foremost leaders of the communist movement in India. He was the first non-Congress chief minister of independent India.
Born on 13th June 1909 to an affluent Brahmin family, EMS was cushioned by Brahmin deities. He completed his graduation from St. Thomas College, Thrissur.
E M S Namboodiripad is also remembered as the first Chief Minister of the state of Kerala after India’s independence. He assumed office as Kerala CM in the year 1957 and again in the year 1967. Apart from a successful career in politics, he was also known for his contribution as a writer of nonfiction work. His book on the history of Kerala is widely referred to till today.
To commemorate this great leader India Post has issued 300 Paisa (3 Rupee) Postage stamp in 2001.
