2018-06-02 Sat

The Central Bank of Luxembourg released special coins on 21st April to celebrate “Institutional Open Day”. It is the 10th coin in a series that features Luxembourg castles. This coin features Koerich Castle and is made of a silver-niobium composition. 3,000 coins were produced at the Austrian Mint in “Proof-like” quality. The 16.6 g coin has a diameter of 34 mm and can be purchased for 90 euros. The late Romanesque styled castle was built by Wirich I, Lord of Koerich and Seneschal of Luxembourg at the end of the 12th Century. Godefroid of Koerich expanded the Castle and gave it a more Gothic appearance in 1304. A spiral staircase inside one of the walls allowed people to climb different floors.

Another Uncirculated set celebrates the city of Ettelbruck. Each set is numbered and it has a mintage of 5,000 copies. A coin of each denomination dated 2018 in Brilliant Uncirculated finish and a 2 euro coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Constitution of Luxembourg are included in the set. The set can be purchased for 35 euros and its sale is limited to one copy per person.
