Weethalle Silo Art Project to be Commemorated on Australian Stamps

17 May 2018  Thu

The beautiful Weethalle silo mural shows a shearer holding a merino sheep and a farmer looking at his wheat crop with a combine harvester in the background. Australia Post would be depicting this mural on a new stamp from the collector’s edition release that honours Australia’s top four silo art creations like Brim in Victoria, Ravensthorpe in Western and Thallon in Queensland.

The stamps will be launched at the Weethalle silos on 21st May. Bland Shire Council along with silo owners and project partners Paul and Jenny Northey commissioned the stamps. They were painted by Melbourne artist Heesco Khosnaran.

The silo opened in July 2017 and was the first one to be painted in NSW. The town has become a popular tourist destination because of this amazing artwork. Thousands of visitors have come down to take a look at this masterpiece. More awareness is expected to be created through the stamp release. Since the response has been so wonderful, there are chances that similar kind of work could be done to improve the look of areas like Griffith and Leeton.
