Shibam also referred as Shibam Hadhramaut is a town in Yemen. The city is famous for possessing some of the oldest skyscrapers in the world, made from mud brick, many of which rise to between 5 and 11 storeys’ high. The town has existed for almost two thousand years.The first known inscription from the city is date back from the 3rd Century CE. Being famous for its mud-brick made high rise historic buildings; it is referred as the Chicago of the Desert or Manhattan of the Dessert.
Shibam, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because of its distinct architecture. The Yemen People’s Democratic 50 fils issue depicts the iconic skyline of Shibam.
