Saurashtra Mahajanapada

Saurashtra was a Mahajanapada during the Ancient times. Today it is a part of Kathiawad Peninsula of Gujarat.The marks of the Saurashtra is seen in the epic stories like Ramayana, In Ramayana, the term Saurashtra is applied to the country from Sind to Bharuch, i.e Kutch, Saurashtra and Northern Gujarat. Arthashastra has also mention Saurashtra as a Republic and also mentions that Saurashtra is mostly known as groups of Agriculturists, trade and warriors.
According to the one of the epigraphical evidence it has found that sometimes during the reign of Chandragupta Maurya, Saurashtra Janapada was the part of the Maurya Kingdom.
