Remembering the legendary actress Nargis Dutt

Nargis the legendary film actress of Indian cinema breathed her last on 3rd May 1981. Born as Fatima Rashid, but she was known by her screen name ‘Nargis’.She made her first debut with appearance in the film Talash-e-Haq in 1935, as a child actress, but her acting career began in 1942 with Tamanna. Later, she also appeared in numerous legendary films of Bollywood such as Barsaat, Andaz, Awaara, Deedar, Shree420, and Chori Chori.
She is best known for her incredible performance in film Mother India, for which she won the the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her outstanding performance.
Baburao Patel, Indian writer and publisher of India’s first film trade magazine, Filmindia (December 1957) described Mother India as "the greatest picture produced in India" and wrote that no other actress would have been able to perform the role as well as Nargis.
She made her last appearance in the 1967 film ‘Raat Aur Din’. For which she received the National Film Award for Best Actress and became the first actress to win in this category.
In 1958, she was honored with the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shree by the Government of India. In 1993, India Post released a postal stamp to commemorate her.
