Issued in 1881/1057 ME (Malayalam calendar) also known as Kollavarsham. This coin belongs to milled coinage, it means it is a machine made specimen. This gold sovereign is extremely rare and uncirculated. The obverse of this coin depicts the Bust of Rama Varma IV facing right, wearing an ornate turban with the date below within the toothed rime. The reverse side features the arms of Travancore with two elephants, trunks raised over conch shell and the inscription around within the toothed rime. The princely state of Travancore accepted the help of the East India Company against the Mysore Kingdom and after Independence, it merged itself into the Indian Union.
