Malta Post is going to release two new stamps on the theme Bridges on 3rd May. These are called Europa stamps where different European postal administrations work hand in hand to promote philately and make people aware of the culture and history of Europe.
The Grand Harbour Breakwater Bridge or St Elmo Bridge is depicted on the €0.59 stamp. The Madliena Bridge in Hal Gharghur or Wied id-Dis Bridge is shown on the €2.19 stamp. The latter was built in 1880 by the British military to transport military equipment and servicemen along the Victoria Lines.
Two sheetlets with 11 stamps each would be released. All of them feature the Maltese Crosses watermark. Printex Ltd produced the stamps in the offset process. 35,200 €0.59 stamps and 39,600 €2.19 stamps will be released. They can be purchased from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo from 9th May.
