Baroque Art Celebrated on Latest Portuguese Coins

Portugal released a cupro-nickel alloy €5 commemorative coin on 26th April to celebrate the Baroque period of Western Art. Bank of Portugal’s credit and treasury institutions will distribute the 60,000 normal finish coins as legal tender.The obverse features the European star in the background. The National Shield with a Baroque style ornament is depicted at the centre. Other inscriptions include “Portugal” and “2018”, “Europe”, “INCM” and the designer’s mark.
The reverse features curves and counter-curves that create a spiral Baroque style design. The face value, an image of the cherub and the legend “The Baroque” are also included.
