Irish Good Luck Symbol on Canadian $20 Coin
2016-02-26 Fri
The green four-leafed shamrock is considered as an Irish symbol associated with St. Patrick’s Day. The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a Proof .9999 fine silver $20 coin sporting a colourful image of this symbol in green. The clover gives the Irish landscape its deep emerald colour and is the most recognizable emblem of Ireland and its people. Some believe that Saint Patrick used the clover’s three leaves to illustrate the Christian principle of the Holy Trinity. Others associate the clover with the legendary four-leaf variety, which is a centuries-old symbol for luck.
The reverse is design by Canadian artist Lilyane Coulombe and features a four-leaf clover with translucent green enamel. The obverse carries the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
