A Royal Coin for the Next Royal Wedding

Prince Henry of Wales and Meghan Markle are going to tie the knot on 19th May this year. Pobjoy Mint has issued commemorative coins for the Ascension Islands to celebrate the grand event.

The wedding will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The Dean of Windsor and Archbishop of Canterbury will initiate the ceremonies.

2,640 people have been invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle. 1,200 are nominated by the nine regional lord-lieutenants. They are representatives of Entire United Kingdom. The carriage procession would start from St. George’s Chapel. It would travel around Windsor Town and will finally reach the castle.

The reverse features initials of the royal couple M&H surrounded by a ribbon on four cherubs. The wedding date is shown on the ribbon while the fifth cherub flies above, The obverse features a Pobjoy Mint exclusive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The coin is available in three versions: Uncirculated copper-nickel and Proof .925 fine silver. Both of them are denominated 1 crown and weigh 28.28 grams each. 10,000 copper-nickel coins are minted and each one costs $16.95. 2,000 silver coins are minted and can be purchased for $65 each.
