A set of personalized multi-sport special commemorative stamps were released by the Philippines on 15th April to celebrate the inauguration of Palarong Pambansa (National Games). Organized by the Department of Education, student-athletes from 17 regions would be participating in this event which will go on for one week at Vigan, Ilocos Sur province. The school sports competition starts with local intramural, followed by provincial and regional athletic meets before ending with Palarong Pambansa.
The Postmaster General said that the new stamps would create some awareness about the event and will increase excitement levels. He also hopes that the stamps inspire youngsters to involve themselves in physical education and learn various values from sports.
Designed by Graphic artist Eunice Beatrix Dabu, 1,000 generic sheets of four P17 stamps with four labels, indicating various sporting events have been released. Each sheet can be purchased for P150. 4,000 pieces of the personalized sheets have four P17 stamps with personalized labels. These can be purchased for P150 per sheet.
