This very rare copper dam, issued by Shah Jahan during the 28th year of his reign, was sold for INR 30,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 3rd February 2016.
Shah Jahan was one of the most successful emperors of Mughal Empire. He was the fifth Mughal Emperor after Babur, Humayun, Akbar, and Jahangir. After the death of his father Jahangir, Shah Jahan had successfully ruled the Mughal Empire for 30 years. Though Shah Jahan was an able administrator and commander, he is best known for the construction of the Taj Mahal, which he built in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Falus Shah Jahani with the regnal year 28’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Zarb Bairata ba Hijri Sanah 1065’.
