60th Anniversary of Italy’s Ministry of Health Celebrated on New Coins

Italy released a bimetallic 2 euro coin to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Italian Ministry of Health. A silver medal was produced in 2017 by the Mint for Minister of Health Beatrice Lorenzin. The new coin’s design is based on the above-mentioned medal’s design. The design represents the Ministry’s historic mission. The “Fior di Conio” version has a mintage limit of 10,000 pieces while the proof version has a mintage limit of 5,000 pieces.

An allegorical representation of health along with some symbolic elements representing Environment, Research, Food, and Medicine are depicted on the obverse. Other inscriptions include the “RI” monogram that stands for Italian republic; Mint mark “R” for Mint of Rome; initials of the author Silvia Petrassi; “MINISTERO DELLA SALUTE”, “1958-2018” and the 12 stars of the European Union.
