Latest Russian Stamps Celebrate Great Arctic Nature Reserve

184,000 new Russain postage stamps of 30 rubles face value each, featuring a white owl against an Arctic landscape were released. Environmentalists and experts had earlier put forth the idea of creating more awareness about nature through postage stamps. They believe that these stamps will work as a social environmental advertisement to garner public support for protected areas' administration.With an area of 4,169,222 hectares, comprising of 981,000 hectares of maritime zones, the Great Arctic Nature Reserve is the largest nature reserve in Russia and Europe. It is also the 3rd largest in the world.
A special envelope and a first-day-of-issue postmark were also released along with the stamps. People can cancel their stamps at the Russian Post office No. 101000 at 26 Myasnitskaya Street.
