Special Stamp Featuring Special Protection Group

India Post issued a stamp in 2010 featuring Special Protection Group. The stamp was issued to celebrate its silver Jubilee celebrations as well as to commemorate the work of the special security force of India.The Special Protection Group (SPG) is a special branch of security force of Indi. Created in 1985, the SGP was created provide proximate security to the Prime Minister of India and former Prime Minister of India and members of their immediate families.
Following the assassination of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the SGP was formed with the intention of providing a highly professional, motivated and dedicated security force to protect the Prime Ministers of India.
The stamp issued on this occasion comes in denomination of Rs.5. Designed by Sankha Samanta, the stamp depicts on duty SGP along with a flag of India on top left corner.
