This one’s a bit scary! A 2015 $10 silver coin from Palau celebrates the spooky creature of the night - Townsend’s big-eared bat in colour and with a glass insert.

The coin shows multiple examples of Townsend’s big-eared bat using innovative techniques to make the mammal look captivating. A coloured glass wing insert and colour on the coin itself showcase the creature.

The forelimbs of bats form webbed wings, making them the only mammals naturally capable of true and sustained flight unlike some other mammals which can only glide for short distances.
