Today is Charles Darwin’s 207th birth anniversary. Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist and geologist famous for his theory of evolution. He published his theory of evolution with compelling evidence in his 1859 book On the Origin of Species.

Charles Darwin however is not just famous for his theory of evolution he has made ground breaking contributions to geology, animal behaviour, soil science, and experimental botany. During his lifetime he became published many books and wrote thousands of letters commenting on various aspects of biology and geology.

Portraits of Charles Darwin have been appearing on postage stamps, coins and banknotes of many countries since 1936. Ecuador was the first to issue a stamp in his honour.

On 18th May 1983 India Post had issued an INR 2 stamp to commemorate this legendary geologist. Charles Darwin also appears on 10 pound banknotes of England.
