Birth Anniversary of Thomas Edison

On 11th February 1847, Thomas Elva Edison, the legendary inventor was born.

He was an American inventor and businessman. He invented and developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world.

He has a total of 1093 patents registered in his name in USA and many more in England and France. He invented half of things that rule our lives today like the electric bulb, battery of an electric car, sound recording, motion picture camera, phonogram and more!

The year 2004 marked the 125th anniversary of Thomas Alva Edison's invention of the light bulb, in honour of this historic event, the United States Mint produced silver commemorative coins.

The obverse of the coin by features a portrait of the great inventor holding an early experimental light bulb in his laboratory. The reverse design features a rendering of Edison's first light bulb. The image is encircled above by the inscription "125th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIGHT BULB" and below by the inscription "1879-2004", "United States of America", "One Dollar" and "E Pluribus Unum". The coin was made available to the public on 11th February 2004.

Stamps of many countries like Mexico, Vanuatu, Uruguay, Romania etc, also honour this legendary inventor and businessman.
