Austria Post has featured Imperial Post office located at Jerusalem on a 100 Austrian Shilling Stamp.The Austrian Post Office in Jerusalem was opened in 1859. It was stationed in old City of Jerusalem. The mail was transported over the 70 kilometre route by guards. Being the place of pilgrims the Post office was an extremely important place.
The Austrian postal service was highly trusted by pilgrims and locals. However, with the outbreak of World War-I, the post office came to an end around 1914.
The service provided by the Post office was commemorated by Austrian post. The stamp features an illustration of an old post office with a horse carriage in front of it.
The stamp also shows the year of issue along with names of designer and illustrator. The name of the post and the period is also seen on either side of the image.
