India’s First Floating Post Office on Dal Lake
2016-01-28 Thu
It was an eventful day on 22nd August 2011, when the then Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah inaugurated the country’s first of its kind floating Post office on Dal Lake in Srinagar.Tourists who flock in from different parts of the country and the world to explore the scenic beauty of Srinagar love spending their time at this unique post office. Apart from offering normal postage services, it also houses a Philately museum which showcases an interesting and rare collection.
The Post office also has a special shop that will sell postage stamps and other products. To promote tourism in Kashmir, letters posted from this post office carry special designs which have idyllic sceneries of Dal Lake and Srinagar city instead of seal of the post office.
