20th Century Irish Poet on a 15 Euro Irish Coin
2016-01-25 Mon
William Butler Yeats was one of the most celebrated Irish poets of the 20th century. Deeply inspired by Irish mythology and folklore, his writings were truly thought provoking. Yeats was also one of the leading figures in the Irish Literary Revival. To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of this legend, the Irish government issued a commemorative coin worth 15 Euros. The rather poetic design of the coin is what makes it one of the most beautiful coins of the world, released in the recent past. The design depicts a young Yeats, facing towards the left, with his peculiar spectacles perched upon the bridge of his nose.
The reverse includes the harp, insignia of the Irish Republic, the year of issue “2015” and text “EIRE” on either side of the harp.
