Adam and Eve

2017-07-07 Fri

The first lovers, our ancestors, our parents…tragic was even their love story! When God felt lonely, he gathered some clay from the ground and created an impression of him- he called him “ADAM”. He would talk to him, play with him, bring animals to him and even created the noblest and beautiful ‘Garden of Eden’ for him. He was his best creation.

He soon realized that despite this Adam was lonely and sad, for everyone had a better half but him. One night he took a bone from Adam’s rib and created a beautiful woman, someone who would love Adam, care for Adam, live for Adam. He called her ‘EVE’. God loved both of them with all his heart and asked them to take care of this home and obey his one command- "All this is for you. Help yourself to anything you like. But never touch the tree in the middle of the Garden. That tree gives knowledge of good and evil. The day you eat its fruit, you will die." It meant that in time they would die without His Spirit dwelling in them.

An angel above, jealous of God’s abilities possessed a snake and encouraged Eve to eat the fruit of “The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil” explaining that God did not want them to eat the fruit so that they would not become like him- wise and powerful. Eve wanted to become like God and convinced Adam to have the fruit too. As soon as she ate it, she felt a sudden strange feeling in the pit of her stomach- she was feeling guilty; she had disobeyed God and knew she had done something wrong.

They now became unhappy and fearful of God and hid in the bushes. God knew where they were and asked if they had eaten fruit from that tree. Instead of apologizing, they blamed each other for their sins. They were now human. God was sad that they had disobeyed him and asked them to leave the Garden of Eden forever. He told them- “From now on you’ll have to scratch a living from the soil. You need to make clothes and grow food. Nothing will come easily- not even childbirth. And one day, you will die”.

Israel decided to commemorate them and issued a 1.70 Israeli New Shekel stamp on 21st November 2010.

Even Mintage World decided to remember these great lovers and their children who also have tragic love stories. We present you 19 of their children’s stories- Read on!
