2016-01-23 Sat
This can be counted as one of the most innovative measures for encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated. As a part of an official government initiative, citizens of Malappuram have a chance to win a gold coin for being administered with polio vaccine. For the cause that it is minted, these coins will be definitely remembered as one of the most unique coins of India. For overcoming the resistance of the parents to immunise their children, the panchayats of Edarikode and Kaladi districts have introduced this scheme.
Close to 3,700 vaccination booths were set up at the Public Health Centre and officials expect to drive maximum people to these PHC polio booths.
This one-of-a-kind offer has been made in association with a local jewellery. Apart from that, other gifts, including sweets and balloons, were also distributed to the children who reached the booth.
Officials say that these campaigns are run after the reducing number of vaccination counts due to religious orthodoxy. Concerned by the increasing cases of diphtheria in the district, the government had to take this decision.
