2016-01-22 Fri
On January 22 2013, France and Germany issued 2 coins to commemorate the 50th year of the Élysée Treaty. The coin was designed by Yves Sampo of Monnaie de Paris, Stefanie Lindner of the Berlin State Mint, and Alina Hoyer and Sneschana Russewa-Hoyer from Berlin. The obverse depicts the portraits of the Élysée Treaty signatories, Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle, their signatures, and the inscriptions – ‘TRAITÉ DE L’ÉLYSÉE’ on top, ’50 ANS JAHRE’ and ‘2013’ in the centre, and ‘ÉLYSÉE VERTRAG’ on the bottom. The mint mark is also visible with the issuing country’s code – ‘D’ for Germany and ‘RF’ for France. French issues of the coin bear a fleurette on the left as a hallmark of the engraving workshop.
Germany issued 11 million of these commemorative coins while France issued 10 million pieces.
