The Royal Australian Mint celebrated the 25th Anniversary one of the most popular Cartoon series Bananas in Pyjamas with the release of a two-coin set. The coins feature Bananas in Pyjamas and their friends, the Teddy Bears and Rat in a Hat. The event saw the Bananas in Pyjamas blue in their famous attire of white striped outfits greeting their fans. The show tries to inculcate values of cooperation, friendship, creativity and enjoyment among kids. The coin is a mark of appreciation for the kind of impact this show has had young Australians. The set which costs $30 AUS comprises of the country’s first colour-printed 5 cent coin. The 20 cent coin is also coloured and the box set talks about Bananas’ celebrations.
It all began with a children’s song by Carey Blyton back in 1967. The song talked about two bananas in pyjamas chasing teddy bears on Tuesdays. The song was then turned into a show for Play School for preschoolers. The characters became so popular that it was made into a separate animation series in 1992.
