Pice of King George VI

Let's turn the pages of history ten decades back when this massive land was ruled by the English Crown. Today we can hardly imagine India that now stands as the biggest democracy was once tied up in the chains of slavery. But even then Indian Freedom struggle presaged the India's twilight hour -passed in history on 15th August 1947. This event took place when King George VI was the Emperor of India and world just came out from the ordinance of World War II.

King George VI was the last Emperor of India. His region saw massive changes in the world that changed the perception of coming generation. Let's learn about his reign through his coinage. This above show coin is copper Pice, it belongs to Bombay mint. The noticeable attribute of this coin is the misprint of the hole which is not in the centre.

The Pice of King George VI contains three varieties in it. Even the mint of other mint has a mint mark below the date e.g. Lahore ‘L' and Bombay 'diamond dot' or 'large round dot'.

After Independence, the newly formed Indian union issued their own monetary system from 1950 and the coinage of British India was removed from circulation.
