Canada Celebrates its 150th Anniversary Through Coinage

2017-05-04 Thu

Canada will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary on 1st July. To mark this event, the Royal Canadian mint is going to release a special set of coins in its May 2017 numismatic catalogues which are all available for collectors now.

The new set of coins includes an ultra-high relief 10 oz. fine silver coin recreating the designs of the famous 1927 Diamond Jubilee of the Confederation of Canada Medal; a fine silver three-coin set of one-, five- and 25-cent denominations, featuring 90-year-old designs which were never adopted for the celebration of Canada’s Diamond Jubilee. Two coins were designed by a member of the Group of Seven: artist J.E.H. MacDonald.

The Fine Silver “Canada 150: Our Home and Native Land” Proof set contains a coin with red enamel to the numerals “150” on the design. The first coin in the ‘En Plein Air” series of 2017-dated $20 fine silver coins, features a bed of Canada 150 tulips on a painter’s canvas. The illustration has a texturized and canvas effect colour, highlighting the 65th year of the Tulip Festival beautifully. The special 2017 $10 Fine Silver Coin depicts the “Peyto Lake”.

New coins offered this May include:

The 2017 $350 Pure Gold Coin – The Majestic Elk in 99.999% pure gold;

The 2017 $10 Fine Silver Coin – Birds Among Nature’s Colours: Tufted Titmouse;

The 2017 $25 Fine Silver Coin – coloured Dragon in ultra-high relief design of a dragon boat figure head.

The double crystal-enhanced 2017 $3 Fine Silver Coin Zodiac Series – Gemini (June).
