Akbar was a great Mughal Emperor of India. During his reign, Mughal Empire reached its highest peak. He was only thirteen years old when he ascended the throne of Delhi. He played a vital role in building Mughal Empire in the Indian Subcontinent. He founded the new religion known as ‘Din-e-Illahi’; ‘Hijri era’ from his coin was changed to the illahi era during the 29th year of his reign, and this system was continued until his death. Akbar issued coin in gold, silver, and copper. His coinage can be divided into two categories; ’Kalima’ and ‘Illahi’ (Non-Kalima).
Coins which issued with the ‘Kalima’ had the name of the emperor, with the name of mint (with or without an Epithet) and Hijri date on the obverse; and ‘Kalima’ with the name of four caliphs on the reverse.
