First Banknotes of Independent Pakistan Exhibited

The first banknotes of independent Pakistan will be exhibited by Numisbing, a Dubai-based numismatics company in Deira, o Pakistan Day - 23rd March. Collectors are welcome to take a look at the collection for the entire week. The collection of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 100 rupees can also be purchased for Dh20,000. Each note can be purchased for a minimum of Dh1,000.

Officials stated that old banknotes can fetch anything from $10 to $10,000 depending on the condition, denomination, bank of issue and other such factors. They also stated that it is better to invest in old notes than real estate, gold or stocks. Many like collecting notes for their love for history.

The Pakistani rupee was circulated on 14th August 1947. They used British Indian coins and notes over-stamped with ‘Pakistan’ in the beginning. Provisional notes were issued by the RBI and the Government of India on 1st April 1948 for the Government of Pakistan, without the option of redemption in India. They were printed by the India Security Press in Nasik and the note plates were engraved with the words ‘Government of Pakistan’ in English and ‘Hukumat-e-Pakistan’ in Urdu above and below the watermark area on the obverse. They feature signatures of Indian banking and finance officials.
