Gold Pagoda of Tipu Sultan Sold For INR 25,000

This beautiful gold pagoda was issued by Tipu Sultan in the Mauludi year 1198, during the first year of his reign.Tipu Sultan was a ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore; he is as also known as Sher-e-Mysore, (Tiger of Mysore). He was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore. Born on 20th November 1750, Tipu Sultan, a great scholar, poet and soldier, ruled the Kingdom of Mysore with his father until the latter’s death in 1782.
This gold pagoda issued by him weighs around 3.4g. The obverse of the coin reads as ‘Huwa As-Sultan Al-Adil Sanah 1198 Hijri’ and the reverse of the coin reads as the Persian letter ‘He’ with the regnal year 1, in a granulated field.
This gold pagoda was sold for INR 25,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 18th November 2016.
