Burhan Nizam Shah II Coin Sold for INR 16,000

This gold pagoda was issued by Burhan Nizam Shah II (AH 1000-1003; AD 1591-1595) in the year AH 1001.Burhan Nizam Shah II was the ruler of Ahmadnagar in Deccan. He issued the coins in gold and copper. His short year of reign issued abundant of coins. Gold coins issued by him are rare and copper coins issued by him are common. Both gold coins and copper coins issued by him bear mint name Burhanabad; the only exception is some small rare coins which were struck at Murtadabad.
This gold pagoda was sold for INR 16,000 at Todywalla Auction held at Kolkata, on 24th December 2011. The obverse of the coins reads as ‘Zarb Burhanabad with date 1001 within scallop; Date 1001 is written over ‘Be’ of Zarb; and the reverse of the reads as ‘Shi’a Shahada’.
