This half Gold Mohur belongs to Swarup Shahi series. It was minted in Udaipur during the British Raj.

The state of Mewar was under a Rajputana Agency and its capital was Udaipur. The royal line of Mewar was regarded as a high-ranking house in India. They were the only indigenous rulers who resisted the invasions of Mughals. Mewar is famous for its fearful rite ‘Jauhar’ - A funeral pyre where women burned themselves alive and men fell on the swords of the invaders rather than submitting to the enemy.

Mewar saw many invasions and recovered through it, but with time their strength gradually deteriorated. In the coming centuries, constant invasions from the Marathas forced the ruler of Mewar Maharana Bhim Singh(25th Maharana of Mewar) to sign a treaty with the British and Mewar became a British Protectorate and Maharana Bhim Singh the 1st Maharana of the princely state of Mewar. .

This Gold Mohur of Swarup Shahi series was issued between 1858- 1920 AD by Udaipur mint. Its obverse depicts a Devanagari legend ‘Dosti Landhan’(Friendship with London) within the arc like circular design. The reverse depicts Devanagari legend ‘Chitrakut/Udaipur’.

In April 1948 Mewar joined the independent Union of India and merged into Rajasthan state. The Maharana became the governor Maharaja Pramukh of the new province.
