2016-12-31 Sat

Florida United Numismatists (FUN) show in Fort Lauderdale will be offering many rare coins at Heritage’s U.S. coins auction from 4th to 9th January.

Less than 500 1879 $4 Flowing Hair Stella coins were issued to match the foreign currencies for international trade but were considered to be unnecessary. The coin offered at the event is graded PR61 by PCGS without planchet striations, unlike other existing coins of the same type.

Another coin to be offered is the large MS65 1925 Norse medal with a Viking in full battle depiction on the obverse and a Viking longship on the reverse. The coin was issued under a Norse-American Congressman named Ole Juulson Kvale to celebrate the 100 years of the voyage of the Restauration and the immigration of Norwegians to the United States. After a lot of disagreements between the US Treasury and Mr. Kvale, a bronze octagonal medal was struck. The medals were triple-plated with silver and given to important personalities like President Calvin Coolidge. The coin to be offered at the auction has smooth, satiny surfaces, sharp strike, ocean-blue, chestnut-gold, and dove-gray toning.

A 1786 bronze piece featuring Benjamin Franklin, struck at Paris Mint in 1786, graded MS63 NGC with the Dupré-designed pattern to celebrate Franklin’s 80th birthday is also going to be offered at the auction as well.
