Tipu Sultan also known as Tiger of Mysore or Tipu Sahib was the ruler of the kingdom of Mysore. He was the eldest son of the Hyder Ali. He had introduced numbers of Administrative innovations, including his coinage and new calendar system known as ’Mauludi year’

During the first four years of his reign, he issued coins only from two mints - Pattan and Nagar. From the fifth year of the reign, the number of mints was increased to eight. The coins which he had issued during the first four years of his reign bear Hijri date; which reads from left to right. Coins which he had issued during the fifth year of his reign bear the Mauludi date, which reads from right to left.

One of gold pagoda also known as Faruqi minted at Nagar; weighs around 3.4g was sold for INR 30,000 at Rajgor’s Auction on their 25th Auction. The obverse of the coin reads as “Huwa Muhammad As-Sultan Al-Adil Sanah 1216. And the reverse of the coin reads as ‘Faruqi Nagar ‘He’ sanah 6”. This is a very rare coin.
