2016-11-16 Wed

When the movie Transformers: Age of Extinction was released in 2014, the Perth Mint issued a coloured Lockdown 2014 1oz silver proof lenticular commemorative coin. Mintage was limited to 5,000 numbers and they come in special packaging along with a Numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

As per the story, Transformers are special robots with an ability to think and feel. They hailed from a plant named Cybertron 4 million years ago. There were two types of robots, the heroic ones were called Autobots and the devilish ones were called Decepticons.

These robots transform themselves into everyday vehicles such as cars and trucks and stay undetected on Earth.

Lockdown is a Big Bad Decepticon, that hunts for bounty. It’s head can change into a gun and was earlier an Autobot CyberNinja who trained under Yoketron, before being banished for betraying him. Lockdown returned to kill Yoketron as his first job as a bounty hunter.

The reverse depicts a coloured Lockdown which changes from a robot to a Lockdown Supercar using lenticular technology, when the coin is tilted. Other inscriptions include the world LOCKDOWN, Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

The Government of Tuvalu coin features Queen Elizabeth II ‘s portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, the denomination, and the year of issue 2014.
