Today is the day when the course of Indian history changed forever when the outcome of the battle of Plessey (Palashi) was cemented. Today on 22nd October 1764 battle of Buxar(Baksar) was fought.India is known for its vast rich land and flouring trade attracted the attention of many foreign merchants, and one among them were the British in the form of East India Company. It started from a ‘Farman’ by Mughal Emperor Jahangir and ended with the ‘Diwani’ given by Shah Alam II in the treaty of Allahabad on 1764 which gave East India company right to collect taxes and decided civil cases.
Battle of Buxar was fought with the combined forces of Nawab of Bengal Mir Qasim, Shuja-Ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh and Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II against East India company lead by Hector Munro at the daybreak. The Indian side had a massive army of almost 40,000 troops, whereas the British had only 10,000 soldiers in their ranks.
But yet the Indian tropes were defeated, there were many reasons for the loss at Indian side but whatever the reason was the result ended with East India Company taking over the administration, political, economic and social stronghold of central India and Bengal. Hence, the way towards the whole Indian Peninsula was open to them.
The foreign flag was floating on the Indian soil and the wealth of Ganga was flowing through Thames. This battle changes the face of India history in both good and bad ways. But the biggest change was handing over Diwani right by shah Alam II so to remember this king through his coinage, this silver Rupee minted in Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad issued in the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II.
