India Post’s another interesting stamp release. India post issued a set of two stamps featuring two of India’s unique wall paintings; viz Shekhawati Chitrakala - Rajasthan and Warli Chitrakala - Maharashtra.

The stamp with higher denomination of Rs.20 features the Shekhawati style of wall painting. Shekhawati painting originate from Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, known as the open-air art gallery of Rajasthan. The painting depicts scenes from mythology as well as from Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The other stamp with the denomination of Rs.5 features the most unique tribal art of Maharashtra. The Warli Paintings are rudimentary wall paintings which use very basic graphics such as circles, triangles and such other geometrical patterns. The central motif in these ritual paintings is surrounded by scenes portraying hunting, fishing and farming, festivals and dances, trees and animals.

With this issue India Post has made an attempt to preserve the traditional painting style of India.
