Tripura Became a Part of Indian Union

Today On 15th October 1949, princely state of Tripura joined the Indian union, which was signed by Maharani Kanchan Prava Maha Devi in New Delhi.It is quit fascinating to know that the Princely state of Tripura was called Hill Tipperah. It is also claimed to be one of the oldest princely State of ancient India which royal line is ruled by the Kings of Manikya dynasty. It was even independent administrative unit under British Raj but this independent was subjective to the paramount power to the kings.
This Gold Mohur of Tripura was minted by the order of King Vira Chandra Manikya, citing Queen Manamohini.
The Gold Mohur belongs to the milled coinage (machine-struck) which obverse side depicts the court of arms of Tripura with date above in Tripushaka TE 1279 within the ornamented circular border and on reverse depicts legend in five lines which reads “Radha Krishna Pade/ ?ri ?ri Yuta Vira Chandra/ Manikya Deva Varmma/ ?ri ?rimati Manomohini/ Maha Devi within beaded border.
King vira Chandra Manikya was the architect of modern Agartala, he ruled from 1868 to 1896. He started urbanisation, Municipality and schools in Tripura state.
According to ‘Rajmala’ the royal chronology written in Bengali, Tripura state is ruled by Manikya kings since 1400 AD in 547 year 35 known kings as ruled over this land.
Maharaja Maha Manikya was the first ruler and the last king was Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur who reigned for the period from 1923 to 1947.
