Latvian Brown Cow on Commemorative Coin
2016-08-10 Wed
A special commemorative 2 euro legal tender coin was released featuring a cow by the Bank of Latvia on 19th July 2016.The country is known for farming and its beautiful countryside which the coin-design, created by Gunars Lusis (graphic design) and Janis Strupulis (plaster model), beautifully portrays.
Cows and farming have contributed immensely to the country’s economy and have become a part of the countryside routine. The Latvian Brown is very productive, requires low maintenance, has a long life span, and is adaptive to the local climate. The design was inspired by the beautiful lines by The poet Imants Ziedonis:
And while a wee brown calf
trundles through a brown cow,
you too have time
to till the future now.
The mintage limit of the coin is 1 million
Specially packaged 10,000 Brilliant Uncirculated quality coins will also be on sale for €7.30 each. 5,000 sets of the eight Latvian euro circulation coins and the commemorative coin “The Cow” in Brilliant Uncirculated quality will also be available for €25.00 each.
