India has celebrated a remarkable achievement in archery at the Asian Games, winning three gold medals in the compound events. The Indian contingent secured the top spot in the Women’s Compound Team, Mixed Compound Team, and Men’s Compound Team events.
This impressive performance reflects the skill, precision, teamwork and composure of India’s archers on the continental stage. We extend our heartiest congratulations to all the Indian archers for bringing home these three gold medals and adding another memorable chapter to India’s Asian Games journey.
The three victories showcase the precision, consistency and teamwork of India's compound archers. In the Women’s Compound Team final, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238–234, with their score of 238 equalling the world record for a 24-arrow women’s team match.
In the Mixed Compound Team final, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav overcame the Republic of Korea after a 157–157 draw, winning the shoot-off 20–19 and securing India’s first available LA 2028 Olympic quota in the compound mixed-team event.
India completed the clean sweep when Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru defeated China 238–237 in the Men’s Compound Team final. These three victories marked a remarkable achievement for Indian archery and brought three more Asian Games gold medals to the country.
India’s philatelic heritage presents archery through two themes of mythology and modern sport. First one is Arjuna Shooting at the Fish, which was issued on 15 August 1964. The stamp depicts the legendary Mahabharata episode in which Arjuna strikes the fish at Draupadi’s svayamvara by aiming at its reflection in water, symbolising exceptional skill, concentration and precision.
Another issued stamp is issued on 19 November 1982 to commemorate the IX Asian Games, New Delhi 1982, this stamp depicts a modern archer, representing archery as a competitive sport and the discipline and precision of the athlete.
Together, these stamps connect India’s ancient archery tradition with modern competitive sport, making them especially relevant as Indian archers continue to achieve success at the Asian Games.
