In our earlier article titled, Gold Mohur of Ahom King Gaurinatha Simha, we explored in detail the coinage and reign of King Gaurinatha Simha.

In this article, we present a complete set of six denominations of silver coins issued by Gaurinatha Simha, also known as Suhitpangphaa, of the Ahom Kingdom. This is a highly popular collector’s “denomination set,” representing the full range of silver coinage from his reign.

The six-coin set includes the following denominations: 1 Rupee, weighing 11.0–11.4 g with a diameter of 23–25 mm; ½ Rupee, weighing 5.4–5.7 g with a diameter of 17–19 mm; ¼ Rupee, weighing approximately 2.7–2.85 g with a diameter of 14–15 mm; 1/8 Rupee, weighing approximately 1.35–1.45 g with a diameter of 12–13 mm; 1/16 Rupee, weighing approximately 0.65–0.75 g with a diameter of 10–11 mm; and 1/32 Rupee, weighing approximately 0.30–0.40 g with a diameter of 8–9 mm.

All the coins are octagonal in shape. This distinctive form is a hallmark of later Ahom coinage and is often associated with the symbolic representation of the eight-sided kingdom.

The obverse of these coins depicts the legend “Sri Sri Hara Gauri Cara?a Kamala Makaranda Madhukarasya.” The reverse bears the inscription “Sri Sri Svargadeva Sri Gaurinatha Simha Nrpasya” along with the Saka era date. A small running lion, sometimes stylized, is typically visible at the bottom.
