Sher Shah Suri (1486-1545), was an Afghan warrior and ruler who founded the Suri Sultanate after the fall of the Lodis. He briefly interrupted Mughal rule by defeating Emperor Humayun. He had a short five-year reign (1540–1545).
His coinages were different from previous Delhi sultans. He re-introduced Devanagari on his Silver coinage of Tola Weight (Rupees) while his 20 Gram copper paisa were precursor to Mughal Dams for a long time.
