Malwa Sultan Mahmud Shah's billon coins followed three weight standards: 100 rati, 96 rati, and 80 rati.Under the 100 rati standard, he issued tanka weighing 12–12.3 g.
Under the 96 rati standard, Tanka, Half-Tanka, and Quarter-Tanka coins were minted. The 96-rati Tanka weighs 10.5–11 g, the Half-Tanka weighs approximately 5–5.5 g, and the Quarter-Tanka weighs approximately 2.5–2.75 g. 96 rati standard coins were square in shape.
Under the 80 rati standard, mintage in Tanka, Half-Tanka, and Quarter-Tanka coins was prevalent. The 80-rati tanka weighs 8.5–9.2 g, the Half-Tanka weighs approximately 4.4–4.6 g, and the Quarter-Tanka weighs approximately 2.2 g.
This silver tanka of Mahmud Shah I weighs 10.3 grams. The obverse features the inscription 'Al-Sultan Al-Azam Abul Muzaffar Ala Al-Dunya,' while the reverse displays the inscription 'Wa'l Din Mahmud Shah Al-Khalji and AH Date 869.'
