The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, released a special commemorative postage stamp to mark the 125th anniversary of Raj Bhawan, Nainital, on June 20, 2025, at an event held at Rashtrapati Niketan, Dehradun.

Raj Bhawan, also known as the Governor’s House of Uttarakhand, served as the summer capital of the United Provinces during the pre-independence era. The building was constructed by the British government as the residence for the Governor of the North-Western Provinces.

After Independence, Sarojini Naidu became the first Governor of Uttar Pradesh and the first occupant of this historic monument.

Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000, and established as the 27th state of India. Initially named Uttaranchal, it was renamed Uttarakhand on January 01, 2007.
