2025-03-25 Tue

The Alupas were among the longest-ruling dynasties in Southern India.  They governed the ancient region of Alvakheda from 200 CE to 1444 CE. The dynasty also had other names, such as Alva, Aluka, and Alapa. They followed Shaivism, Shaktism, and Jainism (Bunt).

The gold coins in the denomination of fanams and Pagodas of the Alupa king are found mainly from the 10th century onward bearing the inscription (king's name) in Hale-Kannada and (Nandi)Nagari.

The obverse generally features their royal emblem of 'two fishes' under a parasol/ umbrella/ canopy.
